CONTROL TECHNIQUES OF NITROGEN REMOVAL IN WASTE-WATER TREATMENTHRNČIŘÍK, P.; NÁHLÍK, J. Abstract Today, more than ever before, waste-water treatment plants are required to meet strict limits on the concentration of inorganic nitrogen on the outlet. The amount of removed nitrogen depends on the volume of denitrification. The rate of this process can be increased by the addition of an external carbon source (eg. methanol, acetic acid) and by changing the internal recycle ratio. The topic of our research is the optimization of control algorithms of the N-removal process at the waste-water treatment plant in Hradec Králové. Literature research has shown that in similar applications, various advanced control techniques aiming at improved operation of the biological nitrogen removal process were successfully applied. This paper presents a detailed overview of these solutions as a first step towards the creation of an optimal solution for the concrete plant in Hradec Králové.
