NEW TUNING METHOD FOR PI CONTROLLERS BASED ON ALGEBRAIC APPROACH

MATUŠŮ, R.; PROKOP, R.

Abstract

The contribution is focused on a novel tuning method for continuous-time PI controllers. The synthesis technique itself is nothing new – it is adopted from algebraic approach. The aim of the paper is to study and investigate relations between a scalar tuning parameter m>0 and the desired behaviour of the control loop. The controller design is based on general solutions of diophantine equations in the ring of proper and Hurwitz stable rational functions. One of advantages of this approach is that behaviour of regulators can be influenced by only one scalar tuning parameter m>0. There exist some methods how to choose the appropriate “tuning knob” m for obtaining a controller which fulfill requirements of robustness, but there is a lack of rules for nominal systems. As expected, the set of simulation experiments has brought quite simple relation between m and selected behaviour of the closed-loop system. The size of overshoot was chosen as a criterion. However, the contribution presents one of the first experimental analyses in this field and thus it deals only with the simplest possible controlled system – SISO time-delay free first order plant.
